WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – If you are looking for something fun to do this weekend, West Point is the place to be.

A blues festival starts Friday night, followed by Prairie Arts on Saturday.
Downtown West Point will look a little different on Saturday.

Now, Volunteers are busy getting everything in place for the 37th Annual Prairie Arts Festival.

“Tomorrow will be the big day. Lots of arts and crafts and fine arts and things for kids to do. Just so much going on in downtown West Point this weekend,” said Lisa Klutts, Coordinator of Prairie Arts.

Set up for the city’s largest event takes a lot of work and time.

“With a lot of things going on downtown, the electrical guys are making sure that all the electricity is ready for the vendors, the food tents are going up for all the fine arts tomorrow. And we’re barricading streets, we’re starting to block off streets,” said Klutts.

Right down the road from Prairie Arts is the Black Prairie Blues Festival at the former Mary Holmes College Auditorium.

More than 500 blues lovers will soon fill these seats and organizers say they’re in for a great show.

“First act will be King Fish Ingram from Clarksdale, Super Chicken also from Clarksdale area and then Eddie Cotton Junior. He’ll be the headliner, so we’re real excited,” said Jeremy Klutts, organizer of the blues fest.

Holding the two events on Labor Day weekend has become a tradition, and the hope is to draw in a larger crowd than ever before.

“Kind of do that on purpose to home something to do Friday night to bring people into town and they can enjoy the next day at Prairie Arts. There will be blues at Prairie Arts also the next day. So we’re going to try to beef that up over the years a little bit more as we go,” added Klutts.

Prairie Arts Fest kicks off at 9 Saturday morning and ends around 4.
