Video Cameras Going Up at West Point Park

WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) — Outdoor enthusiasts using the popular Sally Kate Winters park and walking trail in West Point have some new companions.

The city has installed four video surveillance cameras and plans to add more to watch over the park and trail.

City leaders say the cameras will help deter vandals and others who might think the park is a good spot for mischief. The cameras allow police and city administrators to remotely monitor the park and capture video of suspicious incidents.

“We’ve had some vandalism that will allow us to keep the vandalism down. We also wanted down there so people can feel very safe and so they can be motivated and they can enjoy the park,” said West Point Light and Water Superintendent Dwight Prisock.

The city also is installing wi-fi in the park so users can use laptop computers and other devices while enjoying pretty weather.
