Video: Candlelight Vigil Marks Local Observance of National Peace Officers Memorial Day

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI)  -Wednesday night a memorial to honor fallen law enforcement took on extra meaning with the tragic events of the past four days.

The Columbus Police Department held a candlelight vigil at its headquarters.

Two candles were lit in honor of the Hattiesburg officers killed.

Nearly 50 residents stood with law enforcement from across Lowndes County for the ceremony.

Chief Tony Carlton reminded the crowd of the dangers law enforcement face every day.

The names of officers who died in the line of duty were also read, along with a prayer.
