COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A man is free after charges that he fired shots at a Columbus police officer in January are dropped.

City Judge Marc Amos dropped the charges against 22-year-old Demontae Harris after investigators said they had no proof Harris was the one who fired shots at officers at a 22nd Street North apartment complex on January 18.

Charges of aggravated assault on a police officer against 23-year-old Terrell Nance stemming from the same incident have been bound over to the grand jury.

He remains in jail on $150,000 bond.
