HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) – Chickasaw County leaders are considering a prison recycling farm that could help inmates pay off fines and create another incentive for new industries.
Regional Correctional facility warden Brand Huffman also thinks the recycling operation could make better use of more violent felons he expects the 300-bed prison to start getting in the months ahead rather than putting them on community work teams. Huffman has looked at property at the prison and 25 acres just to the north where recyclable materials could be delivered, sorted and resold. The county would make the initial investment but Huffman thinks it could pay for itself. It also would provide an outlet for industries that need to dispose of paper, cardboard, plastics or metals.
