COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Work begins on a $200,000.00 project in downtown Columbus.

Visit Columbus CEO Nancy Carpenter says the goal is to connect Main Street with Catfish Alley and College Street.

Work is going on in the alley behind the Columbus Convention and Visitors Bureau and Catfish Alley.

Carpenter says cables will go underground, along with lighting and landscape improvements.

The Tennessee Williams Lawn Project also includes a landing area for entertainment.

Columbus paid $10,000.00, the CVB chipped in $30,000.00, and an MDOT grant will pay for the rest of the project.

Work should be complete by September.
