Video: City Leaders On Officer Involved Shooting

COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)–In the wake of Friday night’s officer involved shooting on Columbus’ Northside, Columbus city leaders are asking for calm and that there be unity in the city until more information is known surrounding the death of 26 year old Ricky Javenta Ball.

Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is collecting and looking at evidence from the scene near Skeets Hotdog and Smith Apartments.

Three officers are on paid administrative leave and city officials are reaching out to Ball’s family.

“We’ve seen this happen all over the United States but this is time now to where its happening. , this unfortunate incident that happened on Friday night in the city of Columbus. So we need your prayers,” said Mayor Robert Smith/Columbus.

“I want to ensure the community that we’re going to do all we can to provide the transparency that is needed,” said Councilman Kabir Karriem/Columbus.

An autopsy is being performed in the case under investigation by the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations, anyone with information is asked to call the Columbus Police Department who expects to conduct their own internal investigation.
