WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – Clay County citizens could soon have emergency notifications in the palm of their hands.

West Point and Clay County officials are mulling the possibility of a modern weather and emergency notification system for its residents.

The plan is still in the proposal phase, but officials have eliminated two of the three prospective vendors, choosing Code Red as the best choice.

The program cost for the county alone would hit an estimated $12,500 per year, but if all 7 counties in the Golden Triangle Planning and Development District opt into the program, it would bring the cost per county down to about $2,000.

Clay County EMA Director Kerrie Gentry-Blissard said GTPDD counties would meet next week to discuss the system.
