WEST POINT, Miss.(WCBI)–By now residents of West Point and Clay County should have received a post card in the mail detailing information and a picture of what is going to be their new address.

The new addressing system uses a national standard and is expected to help save lives by assisting emergency responders should they need to find your house or business.

According to Clay County E911 Director Treva Hodge, they have never had a computerized addressing system before now.

911 dispatchers will have a computer screen where every house or structure can be seen.

Mail is expected to be delivered using the new address for a period of one year.

After one year, the old physical address will be obsolete.

Residents noticing any error or have questions contact gis@gtpdd.com or call 662-320-2013.
