VIDEO: CMS Choir Takes Top Honors

COLUMBUS, Miss. ( WCBI) — Some local middle schoolers took top honors last week at a music competition in Atlanta.

Columbus Middle School students won first place at the Music in the Parks Festival.

One students, Shakia Butler, won Outstanding Vocalist, and says she has no plans to slow down any time soon.

They may sound like professionals but they are actually the CMS Choir, now an award winning group.
One stand out performer was named Outstanding Vocalist, for this solo.

“It was shocking, I was really grateful that I won it, ” says Shakia Butler.

Butler credits her teacher for her success.

“Ms. Doolittle, she pushed me a lot and I’m really grateful that she pushed me because it allowed me to win because of her encouragement, ” says Butler.

She also credits her family, as she grew up in a home of singers, and hopes to continue to pursue her passion.

“I want to get into a performance arts school so I can get some more experience,” says Butler.

Experience she hopes will help her become an actress, model, and singer.

The Girls Choir were not the only winners, The Gold Band placed 2nd with a Superior rating and the Show Choir also placed 1st with an Excellent rating.
