COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus could have as many as 50 applicants for its school superintendent’s job, the school district’s consulting firm says.

The school board had an hour-long conference call this morning with its search consultants to discuss final qualifications and results from online and in-person surveys of parents, administrators and the community last week.

The consultants told the board they should expect between 35-50 applicants for the job by the time the deadline passes May 30.

The top job has been vacant since Martha Liddell was forced out last summer.

Edna McGill has been serving as interim superintendent, but has not decided whether she will seek the permanent job.
