COLUMBUS and TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) -Dozens spend their lunch hour in Columbus at a “Praise and Prayer” Thanksgiving service. The organization Christian Community in Prayer hosted the event at the downtown YMCA.

The program included songs and prayers, along with a special testimony from Lowndes County deputy Clint Sims who was shot in the line of duty in March. Sims credits his recovery to the support and prayers of the community.

It was a chance to give thanks for God’s provision and protection as Tupelo residents observed the city sponsored Thanksgiving service.Participants said prayer and faith have helped the city cope with last year’s murder of Sergeant Gale Stauffer and also the April tornado.

“Out of the wake of those tragedies you’ve seen a renewed sense of community and just civic pride right here in Tupelo.”

“We want the people in the community to know that God has made a way for us to come together and be as one, not just one day but everyday.”

The service was held at “The Orchard” Church and featured music, prayers and a message by Reverend Chris Traylor, who is the local NAACP President.
