COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A Columbus boy continues to recover after being pulled from the Tennessee-Tombigbee River on Memorial Day.

11-year-old Michael Williams is being treated at a Jackson hospital. He’s alert, answering questions and could soon be coming home.

“He was in the ICU for two days,” Williams’ mother Shaquita said. “They just put him on the floor today, and they said as long as he’s good on his oxygen they’re going to let him go home tomorrow. They’re just trying to make sure his lungs are cleared up.”

Shaquita says she’s thankful for the quick action of Mark McLesky and Travis McDonald, the two conservation officers who pulled Michael from the water and began CPR. She says without them her son wouldn’t be alive.
