Video: Columbus Charter School Application Denied
COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – It’s back to square one for a local organization trying to start a charter school in Columbus.
The Columbus Coalition for Educational Options proposed Inspire Charter School, but was denied by the Authorizer Board today in Jackson. The charter school would have served kindergarten through 6th grade and 9th through 12th grade. Organizers say the denial is another learning tool in the process.
“We had a decent application but I think the Authorizers Board, rightfully so, they have very high standards about what they want to do in terms of opening charter schools. It’s impressive to us because of this: we plan to do the same thing with our kids at the school. We’ll raise the standards and we won’t let them pass until they meet the standards,” says Darren Leach, Founder and Executive Director of Inspire Charter School.
Leach says the group will revamp their application and re-apply next month.
