COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – A major East Columbus roadway will be closing for emergency repairs starting February 1st.

North Lehmberg Road will be closed at the bridge next to Dutch Village and won’t reopen until early March.

City engineers advised the city to shut the bridge down as soon as possible.

Mayor Robert Smith asks residents to be patient with the closing.

“Our top priority is public safety and the traffic congestion for a while, to make it simple, will be a mess,” Smith added.

Traffic will be redirected to West Lehmberg Road and down Gardner Boulevard.

Repairs will be paid for by the city.
