COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — A $23 million budget with few frills is in the books for the city of Columbus.

In a 4-2 vote, the Columbus City Council approved the new spending plan during a brief meeting tonight.

The budget does not include pay raises for city employees, but it does include some major equipment purchases to be paid for when state and federal agencies repay the for cleanup costs associated with tornado damage earlier this year.

It also includes about a one mill property tax increase to help pay off $5 million in street and sidewalk bonds. The work on those projects should begin next month.
