COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Graduation weekend in Columbus is off to a deadly start, and the suspected trigger man is still on the loose.

19-year-old Kale Scott is wanted for questioning in the early morning shooting at the Columbus Fair Grounds.

Investigators say Scott pulled out a gun and started shooting after an argument.

21-year-old Devin Lamar Montgomery died at the hospital. Witnesses say he was shot in the back.

Party-goers tell WCBI Montgomery was trying to break up a fight when he was shot. Another man was shot in the leg. The latter victim was also transported to Baptist Memorial Golden Triangle.

Columbus Interim Police Chief Tony Carleton hopes the public can help them find Scott.

“I hope he would turn himself in for questioning because we just want some more answers, and see what his involvement is with it. So, hopefully anyone that has any information, they’ll call the Columbus Police Department or Crimestoppers,” Carleton said.

Montgomery was arrested in January of 2013 on aggravated assault charges stemming from a shooting after a New Year’s Eve party at the fairgrounds.
