COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI)–The City of Columbus Department of Community Outreach is extending an arm to the jobless who are desperately seeking employment.

Columbus resident Michelle Wilson walks the floor of the Trotter Convention Center where over a dozen employment vendors are set up. Not having worked for over a year, Wilson is hoping this will be the day she lands a good job.

“I’m just praying and hoping that someone will give me a break to success in what I’m doing,” said Michelle Wilson/Job Seeker.

Having lived in the Friendly City for about five years, our job seeker has experience, has a resume, and is presently taking courses on line. Unlike Wilson, others hoping for that elusive job could either be homeless or even a felon just released from jail.

“Everybody deserves a second chance. We make mistakes in life; We’re big in the community and we want to try and help as much as we possibly can,” said Crystal Cunningham/The McDonald’s Corporation.

“I been constantly looking and looking and I’ve been getting interviews, but I still haven’t got a job yet,” said Michelle Wilson.

Stopping by each vendor booth, half way into the job search there is a feeling of confidence, like a sort of light at the end of her jobless tunnel.

The jobs fair is being called “initiative one more”, because companies fully staffed are being asked to take in one more worker; and the jobless lady is hoping no more interviews are needed after today[Tuesday].

“I believe that…..probably in about a month’s time, I will be working. Somebody gonna see the need that I need a job,” said Michelle Wilson.

The jobs fair brought together employers, experienced professionals, entry level talent, and yes even convicted felons are wanting to become gainfully employed.
