COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -The city of Columbus is moving forward with plans to build an amphitheater by hiring a marketing consultant. This past summer the city approved design and planning for the Senator Terry Brown Amphitheater.

The three million dollar project will be built on “The Island” across from the bridge at the Riverwalk.

The Legislature has signed-off on 2.2 million for the city to put towards it.

City leaders are hoping that the marketing firm will help build much needed support from area businesses.

“Besides the appropriations we received from legislators this will be another opportunity to reach out to the community and get other businesses involved with the amphitheater.”

The amphitheater is part of an overall expansion project on the Riverwalk
