Video: Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce Honors Teachers

COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -You’ve seen the bumper sticker that says – “If you can read this, thank a teacher.” Tuesday in Columbus the Columbus Lowndes Chamber of Commerce took it one step further, celebrating 1,000 local teachers.

They gathered in Rent Auditorium on the campus of MUW  for the “Educators are Essential Event.”

Corporate sponsors offered discounts and deals to the many teachers in Pre-K through high school.

Chamber president Joey Bragg says its just one way the community stands behind their teachers.

“We want them to know that we’re her for them, that this community backs them that anything these teachers may6 need we’re here for them and we want them to know that we support everything they do.”

Teachers also got a pep talk with motivational speaker Michael Edgar Myers.

School starts for teacher and their students in Columbus and Lowndes County on Wednesday.
