COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — Columbus rotarians met for lunch today [Tuesday] at Lion Hills Center & Golf Club.

The leader of Columbus, the honorable Mayor Robert Smith spent Tuesday afternoon giving those present a brief history lesson on the birth and past funding for the Columbus Riverwalk.

In 2013 the city and county cut the ribbon on the $2.5 million riverwalk bridge restoration and downtown attraction. There is a riverwalk extension project where the city is partnering with Columbus Air Force Base.

“We received about $500,000 from the Department of Transportation for a river walk corridor connected to the soccerplex, which the ribbon cutting will be on May 8th at 10 o’clock this year,” said Mayor Robert Smith/Columbus.

At that future ribbon cutting ceremony Mayor Smith is expected to share more information on the riverwalk extension project. At present at least 100 people use the riverwalk daily.
