COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) -Columbus city judge Nicole Clinkscales says she wants to be a state Representative. Clinkscales says she is running as a write-in candidate for the District 41 seat.

The late Esther Harrison held the seat for more than a decade before passing away earlier this month. Clinkscales says she is ready for the new challenge.

“Wanting to give back, wanting to make sure that people feel like they are part of their own government. I think that a lot of times we exclude the people. We include them when we are running for election but then we exclude them when we get to the point of making decisions and actually putting in policies that are going to effect people’s lives. So, I think what the people want is they want leadership that’s going to include and then rally everybody around common issues that we can all support.”

Columbus city councilman Kabir Karriem is also running for the District 41 seat.
