COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – Columbus Police and city officials are hoping that a little cash will encourage witnesses to share information in a January homicide.
A reward fund is being created for information leading to the arrest and conviction of individuals connected to a January 11th home-invasion robbery on the city’s south side.
25-year-old Freddie Robinson died of a gun shot wound during the attack.
Interim Police Chief Fred Shelton is trying to drum up support among Columbus business leaders for the fund.
In a statement made to WCBI, Shelton said, “At this time we are still actively seeking business owners to come forward and pledge at least $500.00, so that we can get a total of $5,000.00, and put it out there as a reward for information leading to the arrest of the suspect involved the armed robbery on 10th Avenue South.”
The incident was Columbus’ second homicide this year.
