COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – If you live in Columbus there’s a new way to stay in the “know”.  The police department is launching it’s own Twitter account

Interim Police Chief Fred Shelton says the police department will send updates on traffic, wanted suspects, and events involving the department through Twitter.
Trained personnel will be in charge of posting tweets. Shelton says nowadays people are using technology to stay connected, and Twitter is a great way for officers to connect with residents.

“When there are things going on in our community the citizens are our eyes and ears, when we’re no there so they can have information for us that we might need… So what I like about it is that it’s real time information.”

If you’d like to follow the police department on Twitter, the Twitter handle is columbus_ms_pd
