COLUMBUS, Miss.(WCBI) – The Columbus school district is going above and beyond for the success of students this upcoming school year.

Superintendent, Doctor Philip Hickman, says the district is working hard to produce productive citizens by making them career ready.

“So, when we talk about preparing kids to be college and career successful, we’re starting at the kindergarten level and exposing them to career fields and also exposing them to STEM and technology all the way through, ” said Doctor Hickman.

This is the first year for the district to partner with local colleges to give  juniors and seniors the opportunity to take free college courses.

High school students can also expect to have greater access to technology this year with the use of mac books.

Hickman asks for community support this year and hopes to see a large support system for the school city-wide.
