COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) – The Salvation Army said ‘thank you’ to Wal-Mart for their support.
The Columbus Salvation Army presented an “I Am A Shield” award to the general manager at Wal-Mart.
The award is the first to be given away in Columbus and recognizes local citizens for helping the Salvation Army be a “shield” in the community, fighting against hunger and drugs.
Wal-Mart partners with the Salvation Army and provides food baskets through the shelter.
Wal-Mart Manager, Jason Guntharp, says he looks forward to continuing the partnership.
“It’s an honor, it’s a contribution that the company gives back to the local community and anytime we can help our local community, we look forward to doing that,” said General Manager Jason Guntharp.
“Wal-Mart, they’re a big partner of ours. They always have been, we’re going to come here at Christmas and ring bells. I don’t know what we would do without them,” said Salvation Army Commanding Officer Major Alan Phillips.
