GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Times are changing. It’s a saying that can be applied to many things, including drugs.

Now more than ever, law enforcement are seeing a wider range of drugs including, Ice.

Marijuana, cocaine and crystal meth are just a few of the drugs commonly found on the streets.

Webster County Chief Deputy Jeffrey Mann says now more than ever, deputies are seeing more Ice. The purest form of crystal meth.

“It’s tonnage, It’s not just by the pound anymore. This stuff is shipped across the country by tons,” said Mann.

Ice is a strong stimulant that’s usually smoked.

Mann says it’s a big money-maker.

“You still have your cocaine and your other trades, but the big money right now in the drug trade is going to be in crystal meth and ice,” said Mann.

It’s a multi-million dollar business, shipping the drugs in and sending the money out.

“That’s millions and millions of dollars and once the tonnage makes it to its destination, you have these millions of dollars that have to be shipped back,” said Mann.

Lortab and adderall are some of the most common pills law enforcement deal with.

“We end up either finding people in possession of them that do not have a prescription and more so even the people who are selling them on the streets,” said Captain Archie Williams, with the Lowndes County Sheriff’s Department Narcotics Unit.

Investigators say drugs don’t discriminate.

“unfortunately we have had cases people who are higher up, say jobs as attorneys or judges, nurses and all the way down to your regular neighborhood,” added Williams.

Although there might not be a way to completely get drugs off the streets, Mann believes the solution starts with the people who are addicted.

“Helping the people who are on the drugs is definitely a beginning of that because if you don’t have demand, you don’t need the supply,” added Mann.

According to www.drugfreeworld.org, prescription drug abuse causes the largest percentage of deaths from over dosing.
