OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — If you don’t like the way the country is running, get involved to change things.

That’s the word from longtime Mississippi Congressman Bennie Thompson. Thompson told an Ole Miss audience today to consider public service after graduation. He says too many young people are not being vocal enough in how their local and national governments are being operated.

“Every election is an opportunity for the people to speak about their government,” Thompson said. “If you don’t participate, then you have no reason to complain. If you want things to be different, then the way to demonstrate your support or opposition is who you vote for.”

Today’s appearance marks the first time Thompson has appeared on the Ole Miss campus.
