HOUSTON, Miss. (WCBI) — Work is progressing on a new fire station in downtown Houston.

The outside of the 50 by 52 foot structure is complete.

Work began late last year on the three bay building that will keep county firefighting equipment out of the elements.

The new building will allow the fire department to keep three trucks under one roof.

The city is funding the construction and Chickasaw County handled the dirtwork.

Houston recently took delivery of a new mini pumper.

The new building will move Houston from a Class 7 to a Class 6 fire rating.
