TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – A business that ships Tupelo made products worldwide celebrates a milestone. It was 30 years ago when Cooper Tire opened a plant in Tupelo. At that time, company officials promised to create 300 jobs. Now, 1600 people work at the Tupelo plant, producing about 32,000 tires daily. Officials say Tupelo has been a steady source for top notch workers.

“It’s great to have the strong machinery and equipment and buildings but what is the heart of the plant is the people working in the plant and that’s what makes it so successful,” said plant manager, Robert Hagerty.

To mark the occasion, Cooper Tire donated a guitar sculpture that will be placed along Main Street in downtown. They also committed to providing 10 thousand man hours for United Blood Services.
