COLUMBUS, Miss. (WCBI) — As we saw Monday, knowing how to administer CPR can save a life.

The two near drowning victims and 59-year-old who drowned Monday were all given CPR from bystanders before emergency responders arrived on scene.

CPR instructor, Joy Garrison from Mains Street’s YMCA in Columbus says every immediate assistance is crucial.

“Every minute you wait to do CPR or to get an AED in their for somebody takes ten percent off the person’s chances of survival so knowing CPR and implementing right away is extremely important,” says Joy Garrison.

If you would like more information on how to become CPR certified you can contact Joy Garrison at the Main Street YMCA at 662-328-7696, or you can log onto redcross.org or contact the Baptist Memorial Hospital to find out when their CPR classes are offered.
