CRAWFORD, Miss. (WCBI)–A Lowndes County couple gets to enjoy one of the great American dreams, new home ownership.

Surrounded by close friends and county officials, Crawford residents, Willie and Berneace Hill, are handed a set of keys to a brand new place they will be calling home.

“Oh it’s just a special day and I thank everybody for helping with it, you know, in order for me to get it,” said Berneace Hill/ New Home Owner.

“You know, I am so thankful to get it and I thank everyone that made this possible because we were in a bad shape,” said Willie Hill/ New Home Owner.

The Hills once owned an old trailer. It had to eventually be bulldozed. Berneace Hill tells us that she can hardly wait to cook meals in her modernized kitchen.

“Yeah, I got the stove. I’m just ready to use the stove and everything, cooking,” said Berneace Hill.

Willie Hill has already picked out his favorite place in the house.

“My special room will be the patio because I like it, I’m an outdoorsman. I like to be outdoors ha ha,” said Willie Hill.

“When you see the living conditions before they get started and then the house that they get when it’s finished it really does something to you,” said Spencer Broocks/ GTPDD Program Coordinator.

“Just like I said, all the peoples that made it possible for me to get this. I really appreciate it and I thank those people,” said Willie Hill.

Three of the five homes provided for low income families are located in Artesia and one in Steens.
