CRAWFORD, Miss.(WCBI)–Some Lowndes County children are hanging out in and around city hall in the town of Crawford. An eight week Summer program is giving them a lot to do while on vacation.

Singing, academic learning in a fun-filled environment, and meeting new people. Its all a part of this eight week summer get-together.

“We have people from Mississippi State, from Canada, Ohio, Chicago, all been helping coming tutoring the kids and reading and all activities,” said Deane Parson/Summer Camp Leader.

“And we came down here to visit our friend of ours Mister Nicholson and enjoy the program with the reading program and having the students sing songs and learn about the Lord Jesus,” said Jim Stevenson/Chicago.

A Chicago mother of 8 children of her own, was excited being able to pass on academic tutoring in a warm loving environment.

“Its great to meet new people try new foods, but especially to spend time with these children. Just to get their fresh outlook again and their energy. Their interests their desire to learn. Its been wonderful to work with them,” said Kristen Stevenson/Camp Instructor.

Toward the end of the day their special guests from up north depart, but not before giving the campers a back pack filled with school supplies for when they return to their classrooms. When this camp is over, these children are sure to tell of their summer vacation and the new friends they bonded with.

“I think they are hard workers. They are going to show their teachers that they worked hard this summer,” said Kristen Stevenson.

“Studying the bible, learning how to paraphrase and writing sentences and doing poetry,” said Samantha Brooks/Summer Camper.

The campers this year are from Noxubee and Oktibbeha County as well as Lowndes County.
