STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) — Harvey’s in Starkville has been open since 1987. As they approach the holiday season and a major remodel, the staff is hoping to use food and drinks to make your Christmas even merrier.

One bartender offered some advice for those of you who may be throwing a party this month, on this week’s Day in the Life.

If you stop by Harvey’s in Starkville, there’s a good chance you’ll find Jeremy Blackburn behind the bar. He’s been serving patrons for more than a year. Now, Jeremy is adding a dash of the holiday season into the wine and spirits.
I stopped by the restaurant to get a few ideas on what to serve for Christmas parties, dinners and seasonal celebrations.

“The first two are very easy to make in mass. The first is called a Merry Mimosa. It is a new take on the traditional Mimosa”

The first step in making the Merry Mimosa is to begin with the champagne. Choose whichever brand you’d like based off the number of people being served and your budget. Then its time to start popping bottles.

Recipe:
1/2 glass of champagne
1/2 glass of orange juice
Splash of Grenadine

“Grenadine is non alcoholic and is very sweet. It is used to make Shirley Temples,” says Blackburn.

“This is a very casual drink. Brunches, lunches, dinners. It goes with anything, dessert. It is very easy to make in large quantities,” he adds.

Its also important to remember guests who may not enjoy alcoholic beverages.

“It’s a non-alcoholic drink to accommodate people who don’t want any alcohol, and its very refreshing. It is really good for kids too,” he says.

Cranberry and Tonic with a Twist
Fill glass with ice
1/2 cranberry juice
Top with tonic water (Jeremy advises against using substitutes)
One lime, squeezed.
1 ounce of cinnamon simple syrup

These are just a few beverages you can make at home, but if you want to take a specialized approach to cocktail hour, you’ll have to join us next week. Until then, this has been just one more day in the life.
