NEW ORLEANS, La. – (WCBI) Meet D’Wayne Swear. His career in criminal investigations can be traced from Hancock County Mississippi to the Phillipines.

“NCIS is a law enforcement body that handles the Naval Marine Corps Criminal Investigations. So, we go worldwide. We have a lot of experience and so I am probably coming up on my 40th year in law enforcement, with local and federal experience,” says Swear.

For Swear, NCIS, or Naval Criminal Investigative Services, represents a lifelong career that began for him while he was still in college.. For show running producer Gary Glasberg, the initials stand for television hit.

” I said to Mark Harmon one day, we should do an episode of our show down there and the next thing I knew I was down here and I met D’Wayne Swear.
And, it ended up being more than just one episode. We have a series here, and we just started working together,” says Glasberg.

The conversation didn’t stop there.

Swear’s personality, his expertise after working four decades in both New Orleans and the Mississippi Gulf Coast, made him essential in the creation of the latest spin-off.

“This is a field office and it primarily deals with everything from Pensacola all around the Gulf Coast to Texas. So, different story lines, different settings, different scenarios, but still very much the look and feel of NCIS,” says Glasberg.

Scott Bakula’s character, Dewayne Pride, even carries Swear’s name.

“People have to realize it is entertainment, but knowing now, behind the scenes, its great.”

But for D’Wayne Swear, coming out of retirement to work with the cast and crew goes beyond ratings, the flashing lights, and cameras.

“It is important to get the message out that NCIS exists, cause I can tell you before no one really knew who we were. And the other thing is that the organization here is very in tune to bringing as much reality as possible, because it is a very small organization but it is very proud.”

For D’wayne Swear, preserving the prestige for the real members of the NCIS is just one more day in the life.
