Video: Debris Removal Begins In Lowndes County

LOWNDES COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — Finally, after waiting nearly a month, tornado victims in Lowndes County are getting help with debris removal.

Work crews started Thursday cleaning up debris left behind after the April 28 tornado.

Looks Great Services from Columbia, Mississippi will be in charge of the estimated $94,000 cleanup along with the True North, a company of Neel Shaffer will monitor the cleanup process.

The Lowndes County Board of Supervisors approved bids for debris removal and monitoring Tuesday.

“The two entities should get started today on cutting the hanging limbs and the debris removal. We’ve just anxiously to get it going I knew the citizen have been very patient and we’re anxious to get it going and get those things finalized,” says Ralph Billingsley.

Cleanup is estimated to take up to 30 days.
