JACKSON, Miss. (WCBI)  – We’re hearing more and more about pre-pay funeral services going bad in Mississippi.

Basically, people can pay for their funeral before they die.

Funeral homes are required to put the money in a trust or buy insurance to cover the expenses.

However, more and more families are finding themselves without a place to bury their loved one.

Some state leaders don’t believe their needs to be more regulations. Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann says Mississippi needs to make sure cemeteries are insured.

“Our funeral home regulations are in pretty good shape. The issues have always been the ones put in trust, we have had several issues where the unscrupulous individuals have taken the money,” said Secretary Delbert Hosemann.

Hosemann’s office deals with funeral home pre-pay services.

He expects lawmakers to talk about the issue this session.
