TUPELO, MISS. (WCBI) – Disciple Now 2013 began with a corporate worship service at The Orchard Church. Thirteen hundred teenagers, youth pastors, team leaders and other volunteers gathered three times at the church over the weekend to lift their voices and hear about the theme for this D Now from a California based speaker.

“The Good Life is based on my favorite bible verse, John 10:10 where Jesus says He has come to give us life and life to the fullest. The idea is that following Jesus shouldn’t be a set of rules or boring wimpy life it should be a life of meaning, purpose and passion,” said Mark Oestreicher, also known as “Mark O.”

Disciple Now has become one of the biggest events for church youth groups across the region. Whether they’re D Now veterans or first timers, participants have high expectations.

“I hope we’re able to have a big revival in Tupelo and all over the world because so many times we have things like Dnow and camps but the fire doesn’t last very long and I hope it lasts long and we can change the world,” said 11th Grader Ashley Witcher.

“It’s pretty exciting, I like the atmosphere, the worship the speaker is amazing,” said high school junior Rock Bass.

“I love the fact you get to spend time with friends, and you come really close with your church family, and you get to replenish your soul,” said Junior Auburn McCormick.

After each large event, students are taken to host homes for small group discussion. They will spend friday and saturday night at the host home. At this Saltillo residence, 10 teenage girls and two college age leaders talk about the speaker’s message.

For many, this is the favorite part of a D Now weekend.

“I like when we have devotions at night, cause you have a chance to open up and talk about everything you need to talk about,” said Ninth Grader Madeline Boyd.

“I like being able to express my feelings about everything to everyone, pretty much I like the leaders that come,” said Ninth Grader Rosemary Bryan.

“The biggest difference in being in D Now and being a leader, I can really relate to where these girls are in their life, you know what kind of struggles they’re going through and you want to pour into their life for the weekend,” said Alyssa Martin, an MSU student who served as a D Now leader.

Disciple Now wraps up on Sunday morning with church services, here at West Jackson Street Baptist Church they even have a special breakfast for the youngsters. So for the 13 hundred students who took part in D Now they are returning to their homes, schools and communities determined to live out their faith in word and deed.
