TUPELO, Miss. (WCBI) – The Oren Dunn Museum was bustling with activity Saturday
It was the third annual Dogtrot Rockabilly Festival which is the extension of the fall festival which has been going on for eight years. There was plenty to do for the whole family. One of the highlights was Cow Patty Bingo where participants purchased a particular square and hoped she would do her thing on their square. Oren Dunn curator Rae Mathias-Guess says they wanted the Rockabilly theme because it had such an influence on Elvis Presley when he grew up here.
“There were so many predecessors,” she points out. “He learned somewhere, Elvis Presley learned from the great Rockabilly greats of this era, Jerry Lee Lewis, Ace Cannon. We’re just fortunate to be able to show the history and that something that we can tie in here,” Mathias-Guess says
The Oren Dunn curator says the Dogstrot Rockabilly Festival gives visitors the chance to visit the Oren Dunn and explore the rich history of Tupelo.
