WEST POINT, Miss. (WCBI) – A West Point doctor’s legacy is honored this weekend.

Zuber Park now has a new monument to remember Dr. Thomas Zuber.

The bricks that make up the monument are from Zuber’s original West Point home.

Zuber was the first african-american doctor in West Point.

He practiced for over 40 years.

Thursday marks his 128th birthday and organizers say it’s a way to remember his legacy.

“Visitors that visit the park, play ball and walk, a lot of them don’t know the impact this park has and who the park was named after. And we just wanted to show some history in this community,” said ceremony organizer Charles Ivy.

The monument was paid for by the city and other donations.
