ABERDEEN, Miss. – (WCBI) The single-digit temperatures that blanketed the area for several days last month now means sticker shock for many electric and gas customers.

City governments, including Aberdeen, have heard from residents during the last two weeks complaining about high electric bills. Some Aberdeen residents said their bills were as high as $800 to a $1,000. Aberdeen resident Teresa Straughter’s $390 bill was enough for her.

“It has been cold but it really hasn’t been that cold, and for me myself, I live alone, I don’t cook, I wash every two weeks and for my light bill to be that high, it is ridiculous,” say Teresa Straughter, Aberdeen resident.

Utility leaders across the region encourage residents to contact them about their bills to have their meters checked. They also suggest taking steps now to save energy before the next cold wave.
