Video: Elvis Festival Poster Art Unveiled
Tupelo, MS (WCBI) — There was a celebration this evening at Tupelo’s Convention and Visitors Bureau as the poster for the 2014 Elvis Festival was unveiled.
The watercolor was painted from a photo of Elvis at a recording session in the early 1970s, and in his glasses, you can see the Fairpark statue of the young singer.
Local artist Brent Farrar did the watercolor and named the painting “EP.” He says it’s always a challenge painting the famous entertainer.
What kind of pressure does that put on you?
“Tremendous amount. Tremendous amount. I have a phobia against painting people and faces. I think that’s kind of what took me so long to get started is the fear of overcoming it and making it look like Elvis, but I think it worked out pretty good.”
Also, Elvis Festival officials announced the popular Elvis Tribute Artist competition will be moved from the Lyric Theatre to the BancorpSouth Arena, to accommodate the crowds. The 16th annual Elvis Festival runs June 5th through the 8th.
