EUPORA, Miss. (WCBI) — Organizers of a non-profit group in Eupora are starting from the ground level to create more recreational activities for youth in their community. The group calling themselves F-U-S-I-O-N. Which stands for Families Uplifting Society In Our Neighborhood.

Although basketball nets at Toby Brantley Park in Eupora are torn and in some cases non existent, backboards are in need of a good paint job and organizers of the group FUSION are hoping to have the area in tip top shape for their next major activity. A three on three Basketball Tournament is set for July 5th.

“Because you know having something in this community for our youth is something that really concerns us and we are trying to make it happen,” said Latoria McKey, FUSION Vic President.

Given the fact that there are no Boys And Girls Clubs in the vicinity, three individuals are wanting to change that by jump starting almost from scratch, recreation at a place that leaves a lot to be desired.

“There are no Summer programs. We have no Summer activities for our youth here, and we are trying to hopefully if we get this going we can rally the community. You know, so they can all come out and help us and we can build something bigger,” said McKey.

“We did a little back to school event at the Eupora White Creek Lake and we just did a little volleyball. We had a motivational speaker, we barbecue, put meat on the grill. And we had a little water balloon fight,” said Latisha Oliver, FUSION President.

If these organizers have their way, the addition of support they receive should translate into creating something positive in their neighborhood for all to enjoy.

“Our goal is to help enable our youth to reach their full potential in whatever they decide to do in life. So we want to be behind them one hundred percent,” said Oliva.
