BROOKSVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – After a long journey of both miles and years, a fallen police officer’s bravery is recognized. Local law enforcement, the Town of Brooksville, and the Little Rock Police Department honored Officer Thomas Hudson at a ceremony in Brooksville. Hudson, a Little Rock patrolman, was killed in the line of duty, attempting to arrest a burglary suspect in 1920. Officer Hudson was the first African American Police Officer in Arkansas to be killed in the line of duty, but for ninety-three years his grave site was a mystery.

Members of the Fraternal Order of Police tracked him down to an unmarked grave in Brooksville. In 2013 they purchased a marker.

“Officer Hudson gave the ultimate sacrifice,” said Little Rock Police Department Patrolman, Erik Temple. “He gave his life to the city of Little Rock, its citizens, and his fellow brethren at the department. It’s very important that we honor that sacrifice, even this many years later.”

National Peace Officers Memorial Day is Thursday May 15th.
