GOLDEN TRIANGLE, Miss. (WCBI) — A little-known clause in the nation’s Farm Bill recently passed by Congress could make a big difference in the Golden Triangle housing market.

The new law makes both Columbus and Starkville eligible for low-interest, 100 percent home loans backed by the federal government. Previously, Columbus had been excluded from the loans while areas outside the city were eligible. And the initial proposed rules would have excluded Starkville based on population. But the final law allows both in.

“It’s really going to open up opportunity for more buyers to be qualified, more borrowers to be able to purchase a home. It’s really an exciting time, especially going into the summer. We should see a real increase in the sale of homes in our area,” says Jeff Farnham, JTS Mortgage.

The previous rules had forced many potential buyers to look outside the city of Columbus because they couldn’t qualify for loans on homes inside the city.
