Starkville, Miss. (WCBI) — A Mississippi State University Engineering student is the latest recipient of the prestigious Buick Achievement Scholarship Award and will be receiving some $100,000 in scholarship money over the next four years.

This semester at MSU, fiddle playing engineering student Tyler White of Jumpertown is expected to be walking the university campus by day and touring the southeast and beyond on weekends while not in class. An engineering degree is sure to help put White in the drivers seat, doing something he has loved at an early age.

“We were in the mountains. And my mom said that I was setting in a booster seat at a restaurant and I named I think it was 14 or fifteen cars in a row perfect like what they were. All from the 40’s or 50’s, at age two,” said Tyler White, MSU Engineering Student.

The Star Student graduating Valedictorian at Bonneville High School did not expect to be chosen for the scholarship award and vows to work just as hard on the university level.

“It was nothing for me to come in at three or four o’clock in the morning and get up at 7 and go to school or take a test and; now its actually easier on me,” said White.

The future engineer has at least two tools for success at his disposal. His rigid class schedule at MSU… and an itinerary featuring bluegrass gigs with his favorite band members as they hit the road taking them to various destinations across the country.

“Either six or seven or eight states this Summer, just playing back and forth. And I mean one state one day, one state the next day. Last weekend when we played I went through four states. On the way to play and then was back on that Sunday,” said White.

The group Breaking Grass has released a new CD, White who has a fascination for antique cars plans to get his degree, get a job, and eventually land a position in the automotive industry.
