STARKVILLE, Miss. (WCBI) – Having a child go missing is a parent’s worst nightmare but local authorities are giving parents an important tool to help put them at ease.

The Starkville Police Department and the Child ID program partnered to offer free DNA services, finger prints and photos, Saturday, at the Starkville Walmart. This information is vital to helping police solve potential crimes involving children.

The finger prints and photos are scanned on a CD, making it easy for online use if necessary.

Parents say the program gives them some peace of mind. The Child ID program does not test DNA and has been working with Starkville Police for 10 years.

“You never know when you’ll need it. The DNA is good for 80 years and we have his fingerprints and his picture. I think every parent should do this,” says parent, Pulkit Vigg.
