WINSTON COUNTY, Miss. (WCBI) — This season of thanks is especially  meaningful for the people of Louisville and Winston County as they continue to recover from the April 28th tornado that devastated their area.

The organization “Friends of Dean Park” hosted a gratitude luncheon to show their appreciation to workers who have been helping to restore Dean Park and the entire Center Ridge Community.

They workers are employed through the National Emergency Grant, which employs people to work in areas hit by natural disasters.

Their work made it possible for Dean Park to reopen in September.

“The transition has been beautiful. This place looked like a cemetery. We just brought it back to life basically overnight with just hand tools and man power,” said employee, Chad Steele.

“A lot of hard work, hot days. Now it’s getting a little cooler but we don’t mind it for the bettering of the community … then we’re down for it,” said employee, Marcus Holmes.

Most of the workers are local residents who’ve been unemployed for six or more months. Some of them were displaced workers because of the EF-4 tornado.
