Video: Girl Thought to Have Beaten HIV Shows Signs of Regression

OXFORD, Miss. (WCBI) — The Mississippi girl doctors declared functionality cured of HIV now shows signs the deadly virus has returned.

Dr. Hannah Gay at the University of Mississippi Medical Center started a powerful treatment of HIV drugs 30 hours after the girl was born, and continued treatment until she was 18 months old.

The girl is nearly 4 years old now. As recently as March, doctors found no sign of HIV after she had been off the drug for about two years.

New tests now show the girl is no longer in remission.

Doctors say she’s responding well to treatment.
