Jackson, Miss. (WCBI) -Governor Phil Bryant has signed a major overhaul of the state prison and court systems. The new law promises to cut prison costs by 266 million dollars over the next decade by reserving prison beds for more violent crimes and requiring those convicts to serve at least 50 percent of their sentence.  The space would be freed up by allowing judges to use alternative sentencing for non violent criminals and using drug courts to handle some narcotics cases.
